For a family, choosing a hotel in Dubai comes down to three broad options. The beach zones, Marina, JBR, Jumeirah and the Palm, if your children mostly want the sea and the pool. Downtown and Business Bay if you are coming for the attractions and the malls. Deira and Bur Dubai if the budget matters and the old city appeals to you. This is the simplest zone for a family that wants the beach in the morning and the pool in the afternoon. Hotels line a promenade with restaurants, playgrounds and, for some of them, direct access to the sand. You can spend several days without taking a taxi. In return, the towers are dense, traffic is heavy at the end of the day, and the Downtown attractions need a metro or taxi ride. Read the listing carefully: "sea view" does not mean "direct beach access", and some hotels offer the beach through a shuttle or a partner club.

Jumeirah

More residential and less vertical, Jumeirah suits families looking for calm and wide public beaches. Hotels are more spread out, which means taxi rides for almost everything, restaurants included. Geographically it sits between the Marina and Downtown.

The Palm

Palm hotels work like closed resorts: large pools, a private beach, kids' clubs, restaurants on site. Days are spent at the hotel, which young children enjoy. The downside is isolation: every outing needs a taxi or the monorail, and meals outside the hotel are rare. It makes sense for a rest-oriented stay, or as a complement to a few nights in the city.

Downtown and Business Bay: closest to the attractions

If your programme revolves around the Burj Khalifa, the large mall next to it and the fountains, sleeping Downtown removes the journeys. Children can go back for a nap between two visits, and the malls offer an air-conditioned refuge during the hot hours. On the other hand there is no beach, pools are often smaller, sometimes on a terrace, and hotels at the foot of the tower are often among the most expensive in the city.

Business Bay, right next door, offers newer hotels, often with larger rooms or suites with a kitchen, a short taxi ride from Downtown. Check how close the metro station is: that is what makes this area practical for reaching the Marina or the airport without a car.

Deira and Bur Dubai: budget and the old city

On either side of the creek, Deira and Bur Dubai are the Dubai that existed before the towers. You will find the gold and spice souks, abra crossings, family restaurants and apartment hotels with a kitchen, useful for children's meals. Hotels there are generally cheaper, closer to the airport and well served by the metro.

The limits are well known: older buildings, smaller pools, busy streets and no beach nearby. For a family, the area works well for the first nights or for a short stay focused on culture, provided you choose a hotel close to the metro and read recent reviews about cleanliness and noise.

Heat changes distances

During the hottest months, a short walk becomes an ordeal for a child. The area then matters less than the hotel's shaded pool and how easy it is to get a taxi at the door. Plan outdoor visits for the morning, keep indoor activities for the afternoon (aquariums, indoor play parks, malls) and favour a hotel you can return to easily between outings.

During the milder months everything flips: public beaches, promenades and parks become the heart of the stay, and a beach zone makes full sense. In both cases, book early for Moroccan school holidays and the Eid periods, when family rooms go first.

Arriving from the airport and a day in Abu Dhabi

Most flights from Morocco land at the main airport, close to Deira. Official taxis wait at the exit and the metro serves several areas, including Downtown and the Marina. With pushchairs and several suitcases, a taxi or a transfer booked through the hotel remains the simplest option. If you rent a car, check that the hotel offers parking and on what terms.

Abu Dhabi can be visited in a day from Dubai, by car or by bus, for the grand mosque and the theme parks. If you plan to spend more than a day there, compare a night on the spot instead: it saves two long journeys with tired children.

Family room, two rooms and breakfast

A family room usually sleeps two adults and one or two children in a single space. Two connecting rooms cost more but give you a closed door for naps and bedtime. Apartment-hotel suites with a kitchen and living room, common in Business Bay, the Marina and Bur Dubai, are often the most practical compromise with young children.
