Staying in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a comfortable destination for Moroccan travellers: a Muslim-majority country, halal food everywhere, prayer rooms in the shopping malls and a very wide range of accommodation, from modern towers to serviced apartments. The city is organised around a few hubs linked by metro, monorail and ride-hailing apps. KLCC, at the foot of the Petronas Towers, and Bukit Bintang, the district of malls and street food, hold most of the hotels; KL Sentral, the main transport hub, is convenient for arrivals and departures.

The climate is hot and humid all year, with frequent late-afternoon showers: a hotel connected to a mall or a covered walkway makes getting around easier. Traffic can be heavy at peak times, which is why sleeping near a metro or monorail station is worthwhile. Malaysian school holidays and the festivities at the end of Ramadan draw many visitors from the region, so book earlier for those dates. The international airport is linked to KL Sentral by a direct train, as well as by buses and taxis.

Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur

• KLCC

  The Petronas Towers district, with its large park, its malls and its upscale hotels. A covered walkway links it to Bukit Bintang, handy when it rains or gets very hot.

• Bukit Bintang

  The heart of shopping and street food, very lively until late. Hotels of every category and, around the small Arab street, Middle Eastern and Maghrebi restaurants.

• KL Sentral and Brickfields

  The transport hub, with the direct airport train, the metro and trains to the rest of the country. Business hotels and apartments, suited to a stopover or a short stay.

• Chinatown and Merdeka Square

  The historic centre, with colonial buildings, markets and boutique hotels in old shophouses. More character, but sometimes simpler rooms.

Good to know before you book

• Serviced apartments, often in towers with a pool and gym, suit families well: check the kitchen, the real number of beds and pool access in the description.
• Halal food is the norm and the big malls have prayer rooms, so you can choose a hotel on location and comfort alone.
• Plan for the heat: air conditioning in the room, a hotel close to a station or a mall, and a schedule that alternates outdoor visits with breaks in the cool.
