Staying in Casablanca

Casablanca is Morocco's economic capital and the city where travellers most often stay for business, for a night before a flight, or for a family weekend on the Atlantic. It is not a city of riads: the hotel offer is made up mainly of business hotels, large international chains, aparthotels and simpler addresses around the centre. Before booking, the main question is which district you will spend your days in, because the city is spread out and traffic can be heavy at rush hour.

The city centre, around Place Mohammed V and Boulevard Mohammed V, gathers the Art Deco buildings, cafés and shops, with easy access to the tram. Towards the ocean, the Aïn Diab Corniche and the Anfa district attract families and more relaxed stays, with hotels facing the sea. The shopping district of Maârif and the Sidi Maârouf business hub, near the motorway, complete the picture. The Hassan II Mosque, the old medina and the Habous quarter remain the must-see visits, easy to reach by taxi from most hotels.

Where to stay in Casablanca

• City centre and Maârif

  Convenient for a business stay or for sightseeing on foot: chain hotels, mid-range addresses, restaurants and the tram. Streets are lively during the day; ask for a courtyard-facing room if you are a light sleeper.

• Aïn Diab Corniche and Anfa

  The choice for families and weekends: hotels with pools facing the ocean, a seafront promenade, restaurants and cafés. Allow a taxi ride to reach the centre or the railway stations.

• Sidi Maârouf and the airport road

  Business hotels and aparthotels close to the offices and the motorway to Mohammed V Airport. Useful for a meeting or a short layover, less so for exploring the city.

• Around Casa Voyageurs station

  If you are continuing by train (Al Boraq to Tangier, trains to Rabat, Marrakech or Fes), a hotel near the station saves time. A functional neighbourhood, linked to the centre by tram and taxis.

Good to know before you book

• If you arrive or leave via Mohammed V Airport, check the real journey time from your hotel: the train and taxis serve the airport, but city traffic can lengthen the trip at rush hour.
• To explore the Art Deco centre, the old medina and the Hassan II Mosque on foot, a city-centre hotel will spare you repeated taxi rides; for the beach and the promenade, choose the Aïn Diab Corniche.
• Business hotels are busiest on weekdays and quieter at weekends, while Corniche addresses are in high demand in summer and during school holidays; book early if you need a family room.
